Custom Work

At Goldsmith Silversmith, we have a small staff of designers and jewelers that are here to bring your ideas to life!

Whether it's a family heirloom in need of new life, or that special piece you haven't been able to find anywhere else — we'll have a solution for you.

OUR PROCESS

1. Design & Consultation

To begin the process of a custom job, simply stop by our store anytime to talk with one of our jewelry designers. We will discuss what type of design you are looking for and create a plan and a quote for your job. We encourage you to bring in any photos or inspiration to help with the design process. We can also use your stones and gold to make into a new piece, so bring those along too. No appointment necessary!

2. Wax Carving or CAD Model

Once we have a plan together for your custom design, we will begin the process of creating a wax model. Our wax carver, Marq, hand-carves most of our models out of a special hard wax for jewelry casting. Some jobs require a CAD (computer aided design) model, which is created and then produced into a wax model. This process typically takes 3 weeks. Once the model is complete, we will have you approve the wax replica before we cast it into metal. At this stage we can make any adjustments to the design if necessary.

3. Casting

Once we have an approved wax model, our in-house jeweler, Jim, will cast your design into metal. If you have yellow or rose gold jewelry you would like to repurpose, we can melt it and cast it into your new piece.

4. Stone Setting & Final Polish

The final step in finishing your custom piece involves setting any stones into the design and polishing the metal. From start to finish, we ask that you expect 6-8 weeks for the completion of a custom job. The designer you work with will keep you updated on the progress of your job and will be able to answer any questions that you may have. We pride ourselves in our ability to provide you with an individualized experience that will result in a one-of-a-kind piece!
